The Cards Have Turned! - A poem of Life as Cribbage

Just as they sneered,
Luck's tides turned about
and unleashed my spectacular return.
I knew it first card
settling before me.

Picking them up,
God's face showed shock
as Murphy blanched with fear,
and Satan growled angrily
at my grin.

The cut made,
and their fates sealed,
my pegs dashing forward fast,
storming from behind line
marking Double Skunk.

They tried hard
to peg on me,
but I mugged and counted
well past Skunk's Corner
and caught them.

Cards dealt fast,
I had First Count
which landed full time employment,
then drove on hard,
finding an apartment.

Not many points,
but the game's mine,
as I collect my winnings
face still stony mass
that says it.

I'm back, boys.
Time to take beatings
well overdue in this series,
with skill and determination
determining the day.

Ready to move,
ready to keep playing,
ready to write once more
and tell the tales
I've been promising.

Only glitch hovering
over this damned plan
is how to work it,
and make long commute,
but I'll do.

Oh, and Murphy?
Yeah, he's bailing out,
scared of the thundering steps
my pegs now take,
as I move...
onwards.

8Aug2015 - A triumphant Dyfedd Rex...
(I'll still be silent, but only due to lack of internet for a while, and tons of writing.)

  1. I'm so pleased to find it's a report, not a wish!
    ..."skill and determination
    determining the day."

Nothing too fancy, just right. Well done on all counts.
